Two Teeth Whitening Choices

Teeth whitening can be dramatic and long-lasting if you take a professional approach. Which is why instead of opting for store bought strips and toothpastes, you should see us for professional whitening. In today’s blog, your Houston, TX, dentist talks about which choice could be the best for your teeth!

Whitening In-Office

If you need results quickly, then we can offer a smile brightened by up to eight shades in a little as two hours. The in-office procedure is a simple one. We start by examining your smile to assess the severity of your discoloration. We then apply a protective covering for your lips and gums, and place a powerful bleaching gel onto the surfaces of the teeth. Activated with a special light, the gel will begin to break up stains.

Taking Home Trays and Gel

For more severe discoloration, and to reduce the risk of tooth sensitivity, we could prescribe an option you use from the comfort of your own home. To begin, you will visit our office so we can create a set of plastic trays, which are custom-fitted for your smile. You then take these home, along with a bleaching solution. At home, the trays will be filled with the solution and worn for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The trays help ensure the gel is evenly spread, and never diluted from saliva. The total treatment time is about a week to ten days, and your smile could be several shades brighter. You then keep the trays and any leftover gel to touch up your smile in the coming months!

Maintaining Your Brightest Smile

Following treatment, you can also take measures to help your results last longer, and to protect your smile from poor oral health and worsening discoloration. You should make time to brush twice daily and floss every evening. Try to cut back on foods and drinks that stain, such as coffee, red wine, soda, and tea, or foods high in starch and sugar. Be sure you avoid tobacco products too, as this could stain your teeth. Make time to see us for a checkup and cleaning too! We can remove all plaque and tartar buildup and polish your teeth too, which brightens your smile. If you have any questions about our teeth whitening treatments, or about any of our other cosmetic procedures, then contact our team today to learn more. Let’s start 2022 with a brighter smile!
