Dental technology offers us valuable tools to use when preparing for and performing treatments and services. These tools allow us to be more accurate with our diagnoses and more precise with our procedures. Two of the latest dental technology tools we use in our office are CBCT (a 3D scanner) and a 3D printer.

CBCT

A cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) system is a type of X-ray that rotates around a patient to create a 3D picture of the teeth and the oral and maxillofacial (jaw, mouth, and neck) structures, along with images of the ears, nose, and throat.

We use the PreXion 3D Excelsior CBCT in our office. It offers more angles and views during a single, low-dose scan, which helps reduce radiation exposure. The PreXion scanner is safe and gives us a complete picture of your soft tissues and bone structure. We can also show the images to you so that you’ll have a better understanding of a dental issue and why a specific treatment may be recommended.

3D Printer

Dentists are rapidly turning to 3D printing technology to produce such items as dental bridges, crowns, and dentures, as well as orthodontic applications. The printers often use computer-aided lasers or lights to combine liquids or powder to produce these items. Rather than make an impression to send off to a dental lab to create the final product, we can do it right here in the office. This helps save time and money.

We utilize a SprintRay 3D printer and RayWare software. The system is designed for dental professionals and helps us manage, monitor, and print items efficiently. It’s user-friendly and allows us more control over our workflow. This means more time we can spend helping you maintain your oral health.

We are always happy to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about the types of dental technology we use.
