We’ve recently talked about how we improve the esthetics of your teeth with professional teeth whitening and cosmetic dental bonding. But what about your gums? Issues like a gummy smile could impact the appearance of your teeth and your smile’s symmetry. To correct these issues, your Houston, TX, dentist may suggest cosmetic gum contouring!
A number of factors could cause changes to your gingival tissue and impact the appearance and health of your smile. For example, naturally-occurring issues with the eruption of the teeth or the excessive exposure of gum tissues could be the cause, as could disease that leads to swelling and redness. When we examine your smile, we will use advanced digital technology to identify the factors behind your esthetic concerns, so we can administer the perfect treatments to restore health and beauty, often in only one visit!
The process itself includes the dentist carefully marking the portions of the gums that will need to be removed, and doing so using advance laser technology. We then carefully trim and reshape the gum line as we remove the excess tissues. This enables us to correct symmetry to ensure your teeth don’t appear small or uneven. If you suffer from periodontal disease, this could be used to removed diseased tissues, enabling us to manage the sides easier with routine dental cleanings every few months. The process takes only a few minutes, and you can return to normal activities after a day of rest. The use of a laser means there is little to no bleeding, a reduced risk of infection, and often no anesthesia required.
We also offer tooth contouring, but this is a very different procedure. Instead of using laser technology, we gently sand and buff the outer structure to remove imperfections and reshape the teeth. For example, we could repair minor chips, smooth out any pits, grooves, or rough patches on your teeth, and reshape malformed or overly large teeth. We even dull sharp or pointed portions too! If you have any questions about our approach to cosmetic dentistry, or how we contour the teeth and gum line, then contact our team today. We would love to work with you and help you enjoy a more attractive smile with a personalized treatment plan and an array of cosmetic treatments, including professional teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, and more!
