Your First Checkup Of 2021

Every six months, we urge people of all ages to see us for care. These checkup and cleaning visits could help protect your smile from issues like tooth decay and even gum disease. In today’s blog, your Houston, TX, dentist will explain how we help keep smile strong and healthy with a checkup and cleaning!

Start Your Year Off Right

When you undergo an exam, we have a chance to identify possible areas of concern early., The earlier we make a diagnosis, the sooner we can provide quality care before complications develop that cause discomfort or threaten the loss of your teeth. Starting now means you can enjoy a strong, healthy, and whole smile throughout 2021, building the base for a lifetime of beautiful and healthy smiles for you and your entire family.

The Checkup Process

With the checkup process, we will employ digital x-rays and intraoral cameras or gather detailed pictures of your smile. We will examine these images chairside, so we can walk you through the process and help you gain a better understanding of your oral health. We may look for issues like tooth decay, dental infection, gingivitis, and gum disease. We look for warning signs of jaw joint disorders like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). For kids, we also take time to make sure baby teeth fall out on schedule and permanent teeth erupt correctly, as well as cavities and other common concerns. For results, we will also screen annually for oral cancer.

Cleaning Your Teeth

During the visit we also employ an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual tool to break up and remove all plaque and tartar buildup. The process only takes a few minutes, and ends with a thorough polishing of your teeth. Kids and adults alike then enjoy brighter teeth, fresher breath, and a lowered risk of everything from cavities to gum disease!

Better Care at Home

To help protect your smile from poor oral health, and to help limit plaque in between each checkup and cleaning visit, you need to safeguard your smile. You should brush your teeth when you wake up and once more before going to bed. We also suggest flossing nightly as well, and if possible, cutting back on the consumption of sugary foods and drinks. If you have any questions about starting 2021 with a healthier smile, then contact our team today! We want to help you obtain your best possible smile.
