Using Full Dentures To Help Smiles

Losing all of your teeth, or most of them, could mean severe problems with the function and health of your smile, as well as your overall health. To address your tooth loss with a comfortable and natural-looking prosthetic, your Houston, TX, dentist could create a full set of dentures, supporting them with suction, adhesives, or even dental implants!

What Happens Following Tooth Loss?

When the majority of your teeth have become lost, this means major problems for your smile. You could have trouble eating anything other than soft foods, which limits nutritional intake (and your favorite foods too). Speaking clearly could become difficult as well. You may also feel embarrassed about your appearance! The body will also respond to the lack of roots by suspending the flow of key nutrients to the smile. Without these nutrients, the bone tissue will break down and you could develop an aged appearance! To prevent these complications, you need to address your missing teeth with a prosthetic.

Crafting a Prosthetic

Every smile is unique, so every prosthetic must be unique as well. We may extract the remaining few teeth, and then we will take detailed digital impressions using intraoral camera images. This allows us to plan and craft the finished product in a lab setting. The denture will consist of an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissue, as well as a full row of new teeth. Made from ceramic, they can absorb daily bite forces and also be color-matched to blend with the smile.

Your Full Denture

The removable option will be held in place with suction for the lower arch, and the assistance of a special adhesive for the upper arch. You will need to take them out for cleaning and soaking. Removable options tend to last about 5 to 10 years, requiring replacement as the jaw changes shape. However, we could also insert dental implants, which act as new roots and stimulate the growth of bone tissue, so your denture is now fixed in place and could last for decades to come. We will help you decide which option is right for your smile, so you can enjoy a complete and full smile that functions like a natural one.
